We have a requirement to fill the role of Endoscopy Practitioner (ODP) / (RGN) for a client based in Margate, Kent.

Job Purpose:

To perform endoscopy department duties under the direction of the Endoscopy Manager and assist the Consultants and work colleagues in a professional manner to ensure smooth running, efficiency and high standards of patient care and safety

Principle Accountabilities:

  • To be aware of and to adhere to the policies and procedures as set down by organisation including regulations regarding health and safety at work, COSHH, NMC, HPC Codes of Practice and Care Quality Commission.
  • To be aware of emergency procedures in case of fire and cardiac/respiratory arrest and to regularly attend mandatory updates.
  • To maintain and deliver a high standard of care at all times, using appropriate documentation for patient records and costings.
  • To participate as a member of the endoscopy team and to carry out safety checks on equipment ensuring regular maintenance and being aware of any maintenance contracts.
  • To participate in the planning, execution and evaluation of patient care while in the Department.
  • To participate, where appropriate, in research projects and implementation of research based care for the benefit of the patients.
  • To act as circulating (runner) or anaesthetic member of the team.
  • To assist in the preparation and cleaning of equipment and treatment room.
  • To provide assistance to the Consultant Surgeon and Anaesthetist, liaising with secretaries where appropriate regarding endoscopy bookings.
  • To understand and apply safety measure in relation to swabs, instruments, storage and administration of drugs, in accordance with the Hospital’s Policies.
  • To report any reductions in stock levels, breakages and faulty equipment.
  • To ensure the maintenance of good relationships and communications with all Endoscopy staff, patients, other departments and Consultants.
  • To participate in regular meetings of hospital staff (when required).
  • To co-operate with all other departments in the hospital to promote a unified approach to patient care.
  • To report promptly any accidents, incidents, complaints or untoward occurrences to the Endoscopy Manager or delegated person in charge.
  • To take part in the induction of new staff to the Endoscopy Team and assist with any training as required.
  • To participate in training programmes to ensure personal development and to maintain own knowledge and skills.
  • To maintain suitable standards of hygiene cleanliness and tidiness in one’s work and the environment.
  • To be aware of current trends in medicine by reading professional journals and attending lectures and study days, as arranged and be proactive in the application of research based ODP practices.
  • To be responsible for prompt procedural charging onto computer and for maintaining levels of endoscopy information literature for patients.
  • To take care of and protect the fabric of the hospital buildings.
  • To ensure completion of own orientation programme.
  • Any other responsibilities or tasks as may be deemed necessary by the Endoscopy Manager.

Essential Criteria:

Education and Qualification for ODP

  • Registered Operating Department Practitioner Level 3
  • HPC Registered

Education and Qualification for RGN

  • Registered Nurse level 1
  • NMC Registered

Knowledge and experience required to do the job

  • Relevant experience working in an Endoscopy Unit
  • Knowledge of research and evidence-based practice
  • Experienced in Recovery & Anaesthetics

Specific Technical/Specialist skills to do the job

  • Scope cleaning
  • Decontamination processes.
  • Dealing with emergency situations within the Endoscopy department.
  • Assisting therapeutic procedures
  • Endoscopy – invasive procedures
  • Data collection IT skills

Desirable Criteria:

Education and Qualification

  • ENB 906
  • Diploma in Health Care Studies or relevant subject area

Knowledge and experience required to do the job

  • Knowledge of CQC Regulations
  • Knowledge of JAG accreditation and relevant regulations.
  • Experience of teaching and assessing/mentorship
  • Experience in independent sector
